Benimaclet is one of those Valencia neighbourhoods that locals are quietly proud of. It was an independent village before the city grew around it, and it has kept that character: a grid of short streets, a proper central square (the Plaça de Benimaclet), and a Thursday morning market that the same vendors have run for decades.
The Universitat Politècnica de València is right next door, which means the neighbourhood has a permanent student population and the infrastructure that comes with it: cheap, good-quality food, plenty of cafés with fast Wi-Fi, and a social calendar that peaks in the evenings.
Two metro lines (3 and 5) run through the neighbourhood, putting the historic centre 10 minutes away and the Turia garden a short walk. For the price, it's one of the best-connected neighbourhoods in Valencia.

People relocating to Valencia or testing the city for a month or two before committing. Benimaclet gives you the real experience.
The neighbourhood has some of the best-value eating in Valencia: proper menú del día for €10-12, local bakeries, and the Thursday market.
No clubs. No bachelor parties. Benimaclet nights end before midnight. It's a neighbourhood for people who actually sleep.
Metro line 5 connects Benimaclet directly to Valencia Airport in 20 minutes, with no transfers.

What is Benimaclet like?
Benimaclet is one of Valencia's most authentic and affordable neighbourhoods — a former village absorbed into the city, with its own market, local bars and a relaxed pace. It sits northeast of the city centre and attracts students, researchers and long-stay visitors who want to live like a local.
Is Benimaclet good for remote workers?
Yes. Multiple cafés offer fast Wi-Fi and a relaxed atmosphere. The metro connects you to the centre in 10 minutes, and the neighbourhood is quiet enough to focus during the day. It's a better fit for people who need to work seriously than Ruzafa, which is livelier.
Benimaclet vs Ruzafa — which should I choose?
Ruzafa is more central, more expensive and has a higher density of restaurants and nightlife. Benimaclet is quieter, cheaper and has better direct airport connections. If you want to be in the city's social centre, pick Ruzafa. If you want a real neighbourhood base and direct metro to the airport, Benimaclet is the better call.
When is the Benimaclet market?
The Mercat de Benimaclet runs on Thursday mornings — fresh produce, local cheese, and bread. It's a proper neighbourhood market, not a tourist one. Stock up on fruit and vegetables for the week and get a coffee from one of the surrounding café terraces.
